Tik Tok and Direct Response - an unlikely combination

TikTok and Direct Response

I’m starting to think that the combination of TikTok and direct response (DR) content may be a secret weapon for your e-commerce brand.

Seriously, it could be the next big thing - an actual money printer.

I mean, think about it - almost everyone has the TikTok app on their phone. Everybody is mindlessly scrolling through it. There are over 30 million new TikTok short-form videos posted each day. The average person scrolls through hundreds, if not thousands, of different videos each time they pick up the phone. You are competing for their limited attention span.

But if you want to get your brand quickly recognized, then you use TikTok. Although you are competing with a lot of other content, your content is being shared around a lot more. Your impressions will be through the roof. It’s a good introduction to your brand. As with any good sales funnel, you have to first get people through the front door. Then you can start selling your products.

You use TikTok to create brand awareness and solidify your identity.

Have fun and be creative with your content!!

Jump on the latest trends, engage with your followers, and visually showcase your products.

Sooner or later, you are going to get traffic to your main landing pages or e-commerce stores - maybe even your TikTok shop (but we will leave that for another day ).

Once you have them on your landing page, that is where the direct response magic kicks in. Here is where you have the freedom to create emotion and focus on your product. You can’t make the mistake of being too “TikToky” (a term I use for content that is unplanned and spontaneous). You need to be direct and create emotion - you want to drive people to buy your product. So, focus on the product.

Here are a few tips:

Write copy that is short and easy to read - max grade 4 level. Use a decent font size - especially if your prospects are viewing the content on a phone (they need to be able to see it). Use bullet points - it makes everything easier to read. Tell a story with your product - get potential customers to imagine themselves using your product. Hmm, this sounds like the makings of a good e-commerce funnel. Maybe TikTok and DR are an obvious combination? - I guess we will have to find out.
